Hi, everyone. I am back from a much needed vacation, and am ready to roll. It seems like the good stuff always takes place when you are out of touch for a little bit.
Titan, it seems, had a little bit of a mishap with one of their giant tire curing machines last week. The pressure evidently was set a little on the high side, and blew up the massive contraption. Modern Tire Dealer states in their report that there were no serious injuries, but it did severely damage a part of the building it was housed in. The plant was shut down around the 24th of November, and will reopen in around two weeks.
In other reports, it seems Apollo, the Indian tire maker who made their expansion into S. Africa this year, is eyeing the Giant OTR Market as a fertile field. Reports state that Apollo will begin manufacture of 63″ OTR sometime next year. Hopefully, they will have a few less hiccups than Titan when they begin production.
Lastly, and certainly not least, it seems American Tire Distributors is launching a new, online service to compete with the likes of TireRack.com and Wal-Mart. The service will be known as TireBuyer.com. We wish them well in their pursuits…and..ermmmm…lawsuits. Online passenger tire sales is a crowded market, and the margins become more and more slim as the days go buy. Here’s hoping they can wiggle a little more profit out of the venture.
That’s all I have for now…stay tuned, as we continue to bring you the best news we can find on the tire markets.
Signing off….
